Traffic Exchanges
by Annie on Aug.21, 2009, under Blogging Tips, Traffic
So you’ve created an awesome website and you figure that you can just sit
back, relax, and wait for the traffic to pour in right? This is a general
misunderstanding. Website traffic just doesn’t operate like that. As I stated in
a previous post, it can take time for Google to crawl and index your site. What
can you do in the meantime? Enter traffic exchanges, stage
left.
With the traffic exchange networks, users submit their websites, and then they
have to surfer to earn credits. Each network has their own credit ratio. Even
the best traffic exchange sites have a pretty lousy ratio, usually 3:1. This
means that for every three websites that you view, another user will view your
website once. Now, don’t worry too much about the ratios though. Typically,
you are only required to stay on a particular page for 10 seconds to 60
seconds. It does not take long to accumulate views. (continue reading…)
Ping Your Blog
by Annie on Aug.08, 2009, under Blogging Tips, Traffic
The word PING is frequently used as a noun or verb, where it is used to refer to the round-trip, or measuring the round-trip time. In the computer network world, Pinging is used as a tool to examine whether a particular host is accessible. By pinging, you let the services know that your blog has been updated. Hence, they crawl and index your site, publishing your blog contents, consequently increasing your blog’s popularity. Ping is usually a XML message that contains the URL of the blog. Blog tracking sites publish separate internet address for accepting pings. You should never ping unless there is new content or information, because the services will see your blog as SPAM.
There are several one click Ping services. To follow is a partial list.

Traffic Generation
by Annie on Aug.06, 2009, under Blogging Tips, Traffic
For a blog/website to be successful it must have traffic. There are several types of traffic you can generate to your site, Organic, pay per click, exchange networks, Social Networks and video. This list is not all inclusive. Now let’s go into a little more detail about each type listed.
1. Organic Traffic.
Organic traffic is traffic that comes from unpaid listings in search engines or directories. You can generate or increase your traffic by registering your website with the major search engines. This registration does not guarantee traffic. With organic traffic the search engines use crawling programs, also known as Crawlers, spiders, and robots. The crawlers gather information from the home page and other internal links on the site. Then they index them on a search engine database. The process of crawling could take days, weeks, or even months to complete due to the huge amount of information available on the web.
2. Pay Per Click
Pay per click traffic or PPC is where advertisers pay for traffic. (continue reading…)
Blogging Ethics
by Annie on Jul.31, 2009, under Blogging Tips
In the day to day adventure of blogging, we are always learning new things. While I am still a new blogger, I continue to read all I can, so I will do things right. I have recently learned that there is more to running a blog than getting the theme, putting in the links & ads, and then create the content. There should be a standard you set for yourself. It is just like your everyday job. Do you have a certain work ethic? Do you go to work and just do your job, or do you decide to do your job the very best you can each and every day?
Recently, I was introduced to the term Link Love. The term basically means to give credit or “props” to another websites or blogs, if you based your information on something they had to offer. In a recent post, I indicated that I built my blog by following the info on Moms Cash Blog’s tutorial Therefore; in my post I added the link to that website. Hence, I gave the site link love.
Along with the link love idea, there is a whole set of ethics bloggers use. No, I am not saying there is a pact or contract you have to sign to be a blogger. What I am saying is that there seems to be a standard that a lot of bloggers are setting for themselves. Recently, I set down and wrote out a list of what I thought my objectives/standards should be as a blogger. (continue reading…)
